I teach college art at San Diego City College. I have taught as a volunteer for 6 years, gardening and nutrition at my kids school, mostly 3rd grade. I have researched sugar and sweeteners for 15 years and have directed the non-profit Sugar Museum in San Diego. I taught the Art for Elementary School Teachers course at San Diego State University for 5 years.
At the elementary level, I believe in hands-on education in the garden and tasting foods to learn about how to eat better. With my college students, I try to get them to remember what it's like to explore and be creative as a kid.

I grew up in Huntington Beach with a father who thinks and a mother who loves food. She cooks way more than she eats. My father says, "I see, I eat!", but he doesn't look like it. He surfs still and she swims everyday for about 30 years. My husband and I are lucky to have 2 lovely boys, 9 and 13. We all try to garden, cook, but sometimes we are all just too busy.
