I've been a teacher for 10 years, working my way up the grades (K, 1, 2, 3) until reaching 4th grade which is my favorite grade. I've been a 4th grade teacher for 6 years in the same building which encourages team work for both students and adults. I also taught Summer School for 8 years - some academic classes and the rest enrichment classes. I'm currently on Family Leave for the next year (and as long as I can) as I just had my first child, a beautiful boy, named Silas.
I love being creative! Any time I can incorporate fun activities, whether they are team building ones, academic ones, or enrichment opportunities, I will work them in. I enjoy encouraging my students to not only try their best, but to be their best, and to appreciate their individual skills and talents. I am very thankful for previous students that connect with me through letters, email, Facebook, or a simple visit back to their old classroom. Kids excel with positive energy.
As far as any honors or awards for myself, there are none. I am just thankful to impact the lives of as many children as I do - hopefully all in a good way!
I attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota where I received my Teaching License. I moved back home to Wisconsin where I immediately got a job teaching Summer School. After that, I taught at two schools (a semester at each on a temporary contract) before landing at my "home" school. During my years teaching, I have taken adult education classes for myself - some directly related to school, and others just for my own enjoyment (i.e. Sign Language, Water Color painting, Cake Decorating). I also received my Masters Degree in 2007 for Instruction, Planning, and Curriculum through National Louis University.
I am tender hearted and have a passion for all life - children and wildlife. In the summer I foster orphaned raccoons to be released back into the wild. I also tend to my garden which produces me with an abundance of delicious treats. I decorate cakes as a part time job, and create things for friends when needed (i.e. Newsletters, Store Flyers, Wedding Invitations, Shower Invitations, etc.) I love to smile and look for JOY in my daily life.
