TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This store is operated by my wife and myself. My wife, Ashley, has been a classroom aid for preschool and special education. I teach 4th grade and have studied music for several years. I am certified to teach grades 1-6, and science through grade 8 in Missouri. This is my (Nathan's) first year teaching, and my wife's second year as a classroom aid.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Since this is my first year teaching, I am always changing things (I don't look for that to change anytime soon). I tend to rotate between large group discussions, individual technology use, and hands on activities. I would categorize my teaching style as constructivism mixed with sociolinguistic tendencies. I believe that children learn as much from each other as they do from a teacher's modeling behavior. This being said, there is a place and time for all teaching styles in the classroom, as a teacher, I just need to be wise enough to discern which is appropriate and when in order to meet as many different learning styles as I can.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I won the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence as a child (as did Ashley), was Valedictorian of my high school class, and joined Pi Theta Kappa in college and graduated with a 3.9 GPA.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have an AA in Music Education and a BS in Elementary Education. Ashley has an AA in Social Work. I attended Mineral Area College and Central Methodist University. Ashley attended Three Rivers Community College and Mineral Area College.
