I have been teaching Business and History for over ten years at the high school level. I have also ran chess courses and clubs throughout this time, taking students to tournaments and competitions not only throughout the inland northwest region of the United States but throughout Southeast Asia while I lived and taught in Vietnam from 2007-2012.
I strive for a well balanced teaching style that blends well designed units and lesson plans with flexibility to adapt to the vicissitudes of the classroom. I use all methods of instruction in my classroom from traditional "sage on the stage" lecturing to new cloud software, smart screens, and everything in between with the goal of reaching all students always at the forefront of classroom activities. I believe in classroom management that is balanced between firmness that provides structure and stability with humor and lightness. I believe the classroom environment should be one of safety and fun where students feel free to express themselves, ask questions, and participate.
I have not been fortunate enough to receive any noteworthy public accolades as yet but have been cited often by students as one of their favorite teachers and am often requested when students are choosing electives.
I received my bachelors, teaching certificate, and master's degrees from the University of Idaho. I have a minor in History and received my bachelor's degree in Business Management. My master's degree is in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on career and technical education.
I am a serious chess player and teacher, have studied and performed piano my whole life, and enjoy traveling throughout the world, particularly in Asia where I lived for five years. I believe education has the power to not only transform lives but can solve most of the world's problems if liberally applied, which is why I decided to become a teacher!
