I've spent 5 years as an occupational therapist in the K-12 setting, but also taught reading, cooking, and computer skills to adults with disabilities. I love, love, LOVE being an occupational therapist! I honestly don't think there is another career on earth that better suites my personality. The best thing about my job is realizing one of my worksheets has helped a student become better at learning their address, writing legibly, cutting on the line, or any other skill. I always tell them that "practice makes progress, not perfect" and try to reinforce it everyday. Before deciding on a masters degree in OT, I studied graphic design. As a result, I've previously managed the website, created many flyers, and redesigned the conference brochure for my state OT association as well as made teaching resources for my students and coworkers.
Combination of demonstrating and facilitating. I like to provide hands-on activities that require a high level of repetition, especially when teaching students how to form new letters or relearn how to complete a life skill. I also try to reinforce those concepts in a variety of ways because I do NOT want to be a boring therapist.
