TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have spent the last 6 years in the acute care setting as a Clinical Nurse Educator and then as a Professional Development Specialist. I recently became certified through the ANCC as a Professional Development Specialist. I am now looking to use these experiences to help my peers in these endeavors. As a hospital-based educator I have the opportunity to learn so much and yet I feel not enough is available for us to help us prime new nurses for the job or an adequate network to share these ideas, until now!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have employed a variety of methodologies -- from lecture, gaming, simulation, online, self-learning, 1:1, etc. I try to meet people where they are at use the best methodology that I can to get the message across, and hopefully make it enjoyable as well.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I got my Baccalaureate degree from Northeastern University in 1991 when it was still a 5-year program with Cooperative Education. I was commissioned in the Army Nurse Corps after graduation where I spent 4 years active duty and then remaining years as a civilian. In 2003, I finally bit the bullet and decided to go for my Master's degree in Nursing which I acquired through the University of Phoenix online. I found it to be a challenging environment in which I really (for the first time) LOVED learning.
