My name is Susanne and I have been teaching special education for over nine years. I have taught junior high and high school at a private special education school in Arizona. I was a lead junior high teacher and the NWEA assessment (NWEA.org) coordinator and trainer at my school. My experience is with students who have emotional and/or learning disabilities.
My main objective is to get the student excited about learning. This way any road blocks we come to will be much easier to get over. When students enjoy learning, their confidence and progress are both greatly improved. I am an avid believer in the fact that everybody learns differently because each student has unique abilities and everybody thinks differently. My job is to figure out how a student learns so I can create lessons that get through the confusion and help the student make sense of the material. Once I know what they need help with and how to teach them in their specific style, I can make personalized lessons just for them. After a few sessions, they start becoming more confident and their learning problems become less challenging. My goal is to show them that they have support and someone they can depend on for help. Watching children open up and start being excited about learning is a great experience.
NWEA Coordinator of three private day schools in Arizona. Junior High Teacher of the year in 2004 and 2011.

I recently had a baby and I now am taking some time away from teaching to be a new mommy.
