I have been a high school Social Studies teacher for the last 14 years. I have predominantly taught government/civics classes at all levels, including A.P. U.S. Government and Politics. Prior to teaching I worked as a political reporter in Washington, D.C. for 4 years -- covering Capitol Hill and the 2000 election.
My goal is to make what we learn in the classroom as relevant as possible to the students' own lives and the world around them. As a result, I incorporate current events as much as possible as way to enhance their understanding of the material and ensure that they leave my classroom as educated voters. My style includes some lecture, but also has a strong focus on project based learning that empowers students to tackle 21st century real world problems.
A.P. U.S. Government and Politics exam scores, 2009-2015 - 50% of students scoring a 5, over 90% pass rate
