I have been a teacher for 10+ years, and I have taught all grade levels K-5 in literacy and technology. The majority of my teaching career has been in early childhood education (preK-2nd grades). I have had a teaching certificate in Michigan and currently hold an elementary education certificate in the state of North Carolina.
I believe the classroom environment is a child's 3rd teacher, and it begins with the positive community the teacher creates in his/her classroom. My teaching style also reflects valuing the connection between home and school. I have learned throughout my teaching career to do these things well, while creating and implementing engaging lessons that are differentiated so my students enjoy learning! Children learn best from each other and through exploring the world around them. Establishing teaching expectations along with a classroom routine at the beginning of the year through math and literacy centers, group and partner work are essential in my teaching to promote learning success!

I am married, have two young boys, and made a big move with my family across the country from a small, rural town in Michigan to the eastern coast of North Carolina where we have lived for the past four years. I love to read and express my creativity through drawing, scrapbooking, blogging, and creating teaching materials, which has stemmed from my passion of technology, teaching, and learning!
