TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching in a public Early Childhood setting for 20 years. I taught First Grade for 11 years, and Head Start with Preschoolers and Pre-k students for 9 years in DCPS. Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a Paraprofessional for 2 years in DC Public School system. I gained the valuable experiences I would need while working with an outstanding veteran Pre-K teacher as I pursued my Early Childhood degree. Before joining the DCPS school system I worked in several Early Childcare Centers in the District of Columbia. I worked with infants and toddlers. I have an undergrad degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s degree in Education. I can honestly say, that every job I have ever had since the age of 14 has involved working with young children.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Love First! Building a loving, and caring classroom community is the foundation upon which young learners can flourish and blossom. I take an energetic hands-on approach to instruction and rely heavily on the different learning styles of my students to guide my planning. I use differentiation to help meet their needs and challenge every child in my classroom to be the best they can be. I teach with the expectation that all children will and can learn something new. I believe that I am CALLED to teach, and my purpose in life is to guide young children down a positive path to discovering their own gifts and unique talents. It is a Blessing to learn from them each and every day!
