I am currently completed my fifth year of teaching, ranging from self-contained third through fifth grade. I teach in an extremely poverty stricken school with the most amazing students! They are on a variety of levels, ranging from kindergarten up, so I am always looking for ways to differentiate my instruction to reach all of my diverse learners. I love what I do and wouldn't trade it for anything!
I have a hands-on approach to teaching. I love to give my students opportunities to touch and explore things. We do not use our textbooks, unless it's the math textbook for homework reasons. I like to find fun and innovative ways to help my students understand a concept to further utilize the information in various contexts and in the real world.
Since I have been teaching for only two years, my honors and awards are limited in the educational field. I am a calendar math trainer for our district and am helping write the new math curriculum for our transition into Common Core.
I graduated Clemson University, magna cum laude, receiving my Bachelor's in Education. I then immediately went to the College of Charleston to receive my Master's of Education in Science and Math for Teachers, receiving the SMFT Award for the highest GPA.
I love children and what I do every day. I work endless hours to ensure the success of my children, even when the odds say they won't be.
