I have been teaching ESL for 10+ years in a classroom setting and online for 3+ years.
My lessons are largely task-based and communicative with collaboration and creative activities to boost confidence and fluency. My Grammar Guru is Betty Azar. I admire her style and celebrate her entire collection of resources. I currently teach ESL using the English File and Headway series, which I find to be digestable and cohesive. Many of my lessons are inspired by units from these course books for Beginner-Advanced levels. I've also used National Geographic and Speak Out books for advanced levels, and I detest them. They are torture for students and teachers, full of mistakes, and downright dry and boring. One star! I would hope that my products are the opposite of resources like that.
I have received an award for Most Creative Teacher, 2014, and have been recognized repeatedly throughout my career for my innovation in the classroom and above average student satisfaction reports.
I graduated from San Diego State University with a B.A. degree in Applied Linguistics and TESL certification. I have a minor in Anthropology and a second minor in Illustration/Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC.
I am the owner and operator of Talkin' Town English, where I create content and offer private and group distance language coaching, classes, and resources.
