TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Currently changing the lives of middle schoolers one novel and writing assignment at a time. Been teaching 7th graders for the last 8 years and I love it, even the constant bathroom pass signing. I also taught at an Adult ESL night school program which was an awesome experience. Before reaching the middle school level, I started off in my district as a 9th and 10th grade LA teacher. So, I have taught everything from parts of speech or why a first name is needed on an assignment to Shakespeare and how to write a college essay.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My students call me "Lanz", and I'd like to think my presence in my classroom is to similar to that of "The Fonz" although none of my students would ever get that reference. I am tough when it comes to 3 things: respecting my classroom, respecting each other, and respecting their learning potential. Otherwise, I love to be sarcastic and funny and let my kids express themselves through creative activities. I don't take myself too seriously, so being approachable to my students is of the utmost importance. I push middle schoolers to constantly find their voices and be proud of their ideas. Carpe diem!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My husband and I are both English Teachers, so we make up one nerdy duo. We love our profession and the subject of English so much that we even named our dog Shakespeare. I am a new mom to a beautiful little girl named Zoe, and we can't wait to introduce her to all of the wonderful classics we grew to love reading.
