I have been developing creative therapy materials to entice children to talk during my ten years as a Speech Language Pathologist. I just love it when they remember a seasonal language activity from the year before! I also have experience in the classroom, and have taught a 2/3 and 4/5 split classroom, so I know what it is like to command a classroom of kids. I know first-handed that is a different ballgame than the therapy room! I am very excited about sharing my materials with the Teacher Pay Teacher community. My materials are sometimes best suited for individual or small group, though other materials will work well in the classroom environment.
I believe that children benefit from having structured learning practice, the trick is to put loads of fun into it!!
My mother thinks that I am very special, and that means a lot to me.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, followed by a Master's degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I earned a teaching certificate from the state of Washington through Western Washington University.
I am currently on leave from the school district and am posting materials from a beach location in Nicaragua. One goal I have is to develop some speech and language materials in Spanish, and I think that this setting will help me with that. I'll have to figure out how to print materials for use here in this hot and humid environment, which will be an extra challenge as I work as a volunteer with school kids. I'm up for it!!
