After 16 years of teaching 3rd grade I took on the challenge of language/literate teacher in 6th grade. While I miss the wonderful personalities of 3rd graders I love being able to focus in on the skills of a particular subject matter in the older grades. As long as kids are involved we can't go wrong!
I believe in a balanced approach in the classroom. I think there is a need for cooperative learning. Learning to work together in groups and partners. More than anything I enforce supporting one another by teaching students how to encourage one another with their struggles rather than judging them. I also believe that students need a space and time to work independently. This is just as necessary of a skill. Whether it is paper/pencil desk work or project base students need to be allowed to produce work on their own and take credit for that work.

I completed my undergrad at Illinois State University. After many years of teaching experience I earned my Masters degree at the University of Illinois.
Having two children of my own I know the differences up close and personal in children. All children bring strengths of their own and it is up to us as teachers to help them foster those while working to improve in the areas they struggle in.
