This is my 27th year as a primary teacher, My experience includes both inner city and suburban settings. While in a regular classroom my experience consists of: kindergarten, first grade, and K/1 multi-age. I have also spent close to half of my career as an intervention teacher, working with students who struggle in the areas of both reading and math. I currently work with first grade through second grade in this capacity, although it varies from year to year. So no two years are ever the same for me! I guess that keeps me on my toes!
Regardless of whether I am the classroom teacher or an intervention teacher, I enjoy making learning fun for children. Novelty and a variety of teaching techniques keep students interested and engaged. As an extremely organized individual, I pay particular attention to my environment and how it best functions for children. My students work in whole group, small group, and individually on a regular basis. My time with students always are a balance of busy and subdued times to appeal to all learning styles. Activities are differentiated so all can achieve while participating. Over the years, testing has become a mandate and while I feel it is important to address that reality, we still must make learning fun, relevant, and meaningful for the long haul in hopes that the result is to simply get students to have a love of reading and learning!
I am a graduate of Miami University, Oxford Ohio where I received my BSEd in 1988. I received my MEd in Administration/Supervision in 1993 from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio. I consider myself a lifelong learner and continue to participate in professional development on a regular basis. I currently have an additional forty-five semester credits past my Masters.
You may be wondering why the cute Westie dog is on all of my products. It's a shout out to my wonderful dog Izzy! If you have never encountered a Westie, they are almost human. I half expect him to talk to me, and I've certainly had tons of conversations with him. With a twist of his head, he can just melt your heart.
