I am just starting my second year of teaching 7th grade language arts. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia (with a minor in education), and an MAT from the University of Georgia. I did my student teaching in a 6th grade language arts classroom.

I have gone to public schools my whole life, from kindergarten to graduate school. Growing up in Maryland outside of DC, I attended a magnet elementary to which I still credit so much of who I am today. In 7th grade, my parents moved me to coastal South Carolina. I attended public middle and high schools in my town until I decided to apply to the SC Governor's School for Science & Math, an intensive academic public boarding school in the state. I attended GSSM for my junior and senior years before moving on to the University of Virginia. I have since also obtained a graduate degree from the University of Georgia.
I am a 7th grade ELA teacher in Atlanta, GA. Before I ever knew I wanted to be a teacher, people would ask when I planned on going back to school to get my teaching degree. Then, one day, I found myself in an MAT program at the University of Georgia. Before settling on teaching, I went back and forth between two choices: design school or a teaching degree. While I chose a teaching degree, I still love design. My goal on this blog, amongst other things, is to marry the two. Hopefully I'm successful! In addition to design and teaching, my other great loves include coffee, ice cream, books, donuts, writing, my niece and nephew, creating websites like this, social justice, and dogs I don't yet own.
