I have almost 20 years experience in education. My class has a tradition of academic excellence and personal achievement, annually scoring the highest EOC Scores in the district and region I work in - 10 of my students have earned perfect scores on the LEAP2025 English II EOC state assessment. Most of my experience is teaching high school English and journalism classes; however, for several years I taught an art history class and was also a librarian/media specialist. I teach all levels--from honors students to special education students; therefore, I'm constantly modifying my assignments to fit my students' needs.
I will never stop trying to foster authentic relationships and rapport with my students because I understand the importance of developing well-rounded students who are prepared to enter society experiencing success and balance. Additional, it is imperative that I foster opportunities for students to develop creativity and critical thinking skills while being held to a high standard of rigor and personal maturity in my classroom no matter how many practice standardized tests I must give. In my opinion, it is more important to prepare students who can think independently and creatively than to prepare students who can score well on a standardized test - there is more to a child than what is demonstrated on these benchmarks.
