I'm in my 12 year of teaching! I've taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Sign Language to babies and toddlers, Interventions and now I'm a dyslexia teacher.
I am a very firm, but kind, teacher. (I always hear Mary Poppins when I say that!) I believe that classroom management must come first.
Does it count when you hear the students yelling down the hall just to say hi to you? LOL, that's honestly what I love most and find to be an honor. *Most Compassionate*
I first attended a community college and received my degree in Criminal Justice, I thought I wanted to be a cop! Thank goodness I'm not - I don't think I would have been very good. Then onto state school I went, Iowa State University, where I earned my degree in Elementary Education.
A turning point for me was when I was still deciding if I wanted to go into Law Enforcement or Education. I was mulling it over with my boyfriend, now my husband, which route I should go. Luckily we were eating those little Dove chocolates that have the messages on the inside. As I opened one it read, "Inspire the life of a child." I found that so interesting and as I opened several more they all read the exact same message! Believe it or not, it's true. I have never opened the same message like that so many times in a row. I believe in signs and that was a big one for me!
