Becoming a teacher is something that most agree is a gift that very few people have the patience for. Being a teacher is helping society, helping children, creating a way of life, and touching the lives of children. Every teacher has his or her own way of increasing the knowledge of the young children of our society. There is a reoccurring pattern in the way each teacher's personal philosophy and belief system come into play within the classroom. A positive attitude and atmosphere are things that I believe the children pick up on. Learning needs to be fun and exciting so the children want to come back to school the next day. My philosophy is based on Progressivism and Essentialism. I firmly believe that John Dewy’s “Do by doing” is a great way to engage the students learning process. It allows the students to be interactive, and hands-on with activities so the student feels as if he or she is learning what they want to learn, but as the teacher am in control through the Essentialism. I control what activities the students choose by giving them boundaries and choices. My goals for my students are to enhance their knowledge, guide them to pursue their dreams, be who they are, and to ensure them that nobody can change who they are.
