I have been teaching middle school science for the past 3 years. I taught all 3 middle school grades (6th-8th) and covered all 3 domains of science (at the same time! phew!). For the past year I have taught solely 7th grade science which focuses primarily on life science with some physical science, and earth and space science.
My lessons are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards as well as the North Carolina Essential Science Standards. My teaching style is hands-on with an emphasis on project based learning, inquiry, and integration of literacy skills.

Graduated with my Bachelors of Science from Northern Illinois University in Elementary Education with a middle school endorsement in both general science and language arts. I have continued my education as a student at large at Northern Illinois as well as Parkland Community College.
I spent the first two years of my career working in a title I, intercity charter school. 90% of my students were reading at least 3 years below grade level, with little or no background knowledge on any science content. My experience working with these students taught me to be SO intentional in presenting content in a way that is accessible to ALL students - even those that had no idea what I was talking about on Day 1 of a unit or project. It also taught me that no matter how "behind" a student may appear to be on test scores, past report cards, benchmarks, progress monitoring, etc THEY ARE ALWAYS CAPABLE OF LEARNING. I carry this lesson with me everyday.
