Robynne Merrill is the author of the Teach Speech Now materials. She began her publishing career 30 years ago and her manuals were the first speech therapy publications in the nation to combine language skills with articulation therapy. Her materials have been sold by various speech therapy publishers both nationally and internationally. During her 35-year career as a public school speech therapist, Robynne taught students ranging in age from pre-school to post-high school and specialized in working with intellectually delayed children with multiple speech and language disorders.
Based on her extensive teaching experience, Robynne believes that the educational workhorse, drills, is one of the most effective ways of remediating articulation problems. Drills don’t have to be boring, however. Her materials are filled with fun illustrations and the activities are always engaging. Her materials always include: -Language and concepts -LOTS of speaking opportunities per page -Targeted therapy. Why have a student drill an OR word when the sound that needs to be remediated is Unstressed ER?
Robynne’s first two manuals, /r/ Games for Language and /s/ Games for Language, were featured as the monthly main selections for the Library of Special Education.
Robynne received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Speech Therapy from the University of Utah.
Robynne knew from a very early age that she wanted to be a speech therapist and after a 35-year career is still passionate about the field. She recently retired from her job as a public school speech therapist to devote her time to writing new speech therapy manuals.
