I have been teaching since 1989, both in Canada and Brazil. My experience has been primarily teaching middle school and high school English and history; although, I spent a few years teaching Elementary, grades 5 and 6. I also spent several years teaching English as a Second language, and for a few years I worked as an ELA consultant for the largest English language school board in Quebec. This was an exciting opportunity for me to acquire intensive professional development, and I could not wait to get back into the classroom to apply all that I had learned.
Differentiated learning is at the heart of everything I do. In all my years of teaching I have yet to meet two identical learners. I try to create multiple approaches to the lessons I offer so that each student can tweak the learning to suit their unique blend of learning styles. I enjoy the challenge of finding new ways to help a student grasp a concept or skill that alludes them; it is this, I suppose, that first brought me to TpT. I take my inspiration from Anne Sullivan, a teacher who saw possibility where everyone else saw futility.
