TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have had the privilege of teaching high school English since 2006. I have taught Honors since 2008 and IB English since 2011. I have also taught mixed-level courses and SDAIE (support for English-learners).

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have a humorous, personal style with the students, but I focus on getting into the text and below the surface of the literal meaning of literature. I have high expectations for my students, but I like to have fun (at least a little!) while teaching sophisticated concepts. I hope my work reflects that passion!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was honored by the district last year by being selected as an influential educator by one of our top-ten graduates.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended two different high schools in California, and I was lucky enough to have passionate and intelligent English teachers all the way throughout. I majored in English at The George Washington University and graduated with honors. Nevertheless, I have learned so much more about literature as an English teacher. I always loved to read, but now I see how to decode the levels and layers of literature to find the messages beneath.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love teaching. I love a brilliant lesson plan that resonates with students and changes hearts and minds... but sometimes I love having a handout or powerpoint for a day when I am drastically unprepared. Hopefully my work can help you!
