I have more than 20 years of teaching experience with ages birth through young adults. The settings I've worked in include residential, day treatment, hospital, public schools, private schools, and currently a non-profit organization.
I use observation to informally assess the needs of the learner in order to have a solid understanding of where they are. I use that information to create challenging activities, enabling kids to progress to the next steps in development. I enjoy creating a joyful and rich learning environment that invites kids to explore and grow. I want my classroom to be an emotionally safe, diversity friendly, sensory satisfying, and predictable place (while teaching flexiblity :)
I am honored to have worked with so many amazing professionals, including therapists and teaching assistants. This Fall I had the privilege of accepting The Inspiration Award from the agency I work for.
I started with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Arts and a minor in Communication Disorders from Marywood College (now University). I went on to get an M.S.Ed. from the University of Pennsylvania in Special Education. Finished up with an Advanced Certificate in Learning Handicaps from the University of California at San Diego.
I am happily married to a Pastor and we are raising our teenage daughter, which is the hardest and best job you could ever want! Check out my blog at teacheach1.wordpress.com
