I am keen to encourage students to become independent self motivated learners with a view to developing life long learners. In my experience students develop independent thinking and study habits when allowed room to explore using the Inquiry Method. The current thinking that the question is supplied by the teacher seems an oxymoron to me. While I believe in scaffolding children’s learning, I don’t wish to direct all their activities. I have designed work to allow students to ask their own questions and pursue the answers for themselves. Teachers should facilitate this approach, act as sounding boards, knowledgeable editors in tandem with the student. See Jamie McKenzie's website for great examples of working in this way. http://fno.org
