I have taught elementary school since 2000 with the majority of my experience teaching 3rd grade in Title 1 schools with bilingual students. I have also taught 2nd, 4th grade, and 5th grade. Plus I have subbed in K-5 classrooms. Finally, I worked as a Reading Specialist. Earlier in my career, I worked as a teacher assistant in preschools, ran an after-school program, and worked at summer camps during college. One thing I am proud of is that I also speak Spanish (I studied further in Costa Rica) so I am better able to communicate with some of the parents of my students. I love to mentor new teachers! I also have been a workshop presenter on topics including Reading Strategies, Math Interventions, Whole Brain Teaching, Classroom Management, and Technology in the Classroom.
Silly and motivating! Firm but loving. My favorite days in the classroom are when all smile and laugh as much as possible. Giving up is not an option in my classroom but my students also know mistakes are okay to make because we learn from them. I try to make my lessons very fun and engaging. I also keep my kiddos moving and talking as much as possible so they are active not passive learners.
