I have taught 30+ years in many different school settings. I began as a first and second grade teacher in Kansas. I later moved to Germany where I taught second grade for Department of Defense Schools. While there, I earned my Master's in Library Science and served as Media Specialist for three years. Next, I moved to Texas where I was Media Specialist for an at-risk alternative Middle School and for a K-12 preparatory school for six years. Once again, I moved back to Kansas where I earned my Specialist's Degree in Reading and have been a K-12 Reading Specialist and At-Risk facilitator for fifteen years.
Because I am a kinesthetic learner, I tend to teach in the same fashion. Many of my students are at-risk of failing so I have the responsibility of determing what works best for each particular student and it seems as though most respond best to hands-on activities. Keeping students engaged and on task is no easy chore so I am always on the look-out for new and innovative teaching strategies.
