Many teachers have students use the "Five-Finger" test when selecting a book to read (read a random page and hold up a finger for each word you do not know: 3 is "Just Right"). Even with this test explained, I still found that a lot of students

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

English teacher of 10 years. I started out teaching 10th, 11th, and 12th grade English and elective courses and then had an unanticipated move to 6th grade language arts. Some years later I took a position teaching 7th and 8th grade language arts that I co-taught with a reading specialist for 3 years. I am still teaching 7th and 8th grade language arts, but I no longer have a co-teacher.
