TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Just finished my 12th year as an educator! A former classroom teacher of six years, I've spent the last six years as a learning specialist focused on remediation and learning differences for students in grades K-12. I also provide Professional Development and support to teachers around best practices for reaching all students. I work with many students with low math skills, reading comprehension and writing difficulties, and Executive Functioning challenges. My students help me perfect every resource in my store!

MY TEACHING STYLE

Since all my students are typically at least one grade level behind in the subjects we work on together, my focus is on creating a positive, comfortable environment where they feel motivated and supported. I often use games to provide fun, multi-sensory experiences, allowing students to open up and apply what they have learned in a non-threatening setting.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Educational Therapy Certificate, University of California, Riverside; B.A. English Literature, University of California, Berkeley; M.A. Interdisciplinary Studies, New York University; M.S.T. Childhood Education, Fordham University; +100 hours Orton-Gillingham Training, Dyslexia Training Institute;

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I currently live in Oakland, CA, a beautiful mix of ocean, hills, art and culture. We have some of the best food and weather, even if our sports teams aren't number one as often as we'd like. When I'm not teaching, I'm either reading, watching British television or studying Spanish on Duolingo.
