My background includes 10 years teaching 2nd grade, remedial reading and 7th grade. My focus is middle school literacy. Having started in the 2nd grade, I have experience with the basic skills of teaching reading, writing and literacy. Included in my career is 10+ years in the professional business world and understand the needs associated with a career in project management. This has allowed me to be entrepreneurial in the classroom, owning it and steering students to become better than they thought possible.
My personal teaching style encompasses attracting students to take charge of their own learning. Teaching with grace and encouragement allow some of the more challenging students to find a comfortable place to step outside of their tough exterior and discover their potential within them. Its ok to be wrong because that's how we learn. Thomas Edison said he didn't fail 1000 times designing the light bulb, it took a 1000 steps. I believe students begin to feel their ability to achieve when they can see their successes following failure.

By remaining positive with an "I can" attitude, my students respond to this with respect. I never give up on the "lost cause" student and continue to push, push, push to help them achieve. "The individual student is the key to all our futures." K. Salsbury
