I have taught for 6 years at a Christian Private School in Houston, TX. My lessons are aligned to both TEKS and National Standards. I have taught several disciplines including Art, Technology, Library Skills, Yearbook, Graphic Arts, among others.
I work with my kids by first modeling a skill and then letting them work with the material. After I have first modeled a skill, I will not show them how to do it again, but instead answer their question with my own questions in order to give them "prompts" to figure out what to do next. I have found that gentle encouragement and getting students to not be afraid of making mistakes allows the students to become more confident in exploring and becoming self-motivated learners.
I have been honored by my students and humbled in my experience, but I have not received any notable awards as of now.
I attended the University of Houston, Downtown and received a BSIS. I then continued my education and received my teaching certificate through an Alternative Certification Program. I am currently looking into different programs to work towards a Masters in Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or Instructional Media.
I LOVE TEACHING and coming up with creative ways to get the lessons across.
