This September begins my 17th year of teaching 5th grade! Teaching 5th grade has allowed me to know what the primary and elementary years of knowledge a child must have prior to finishing out their elementary years. Those nearly two decades of teaching have taught me numerous techniques and strategies that have fostered the building blocks of foundational skills and reading/writing fundamentals within my classroom. I also have had over a decade of experience in the corporate world, which affords me a unique understanding of the needs of today's 21st Century Learner. Those two separate prongs of experience have given me both an inside and outside view of how to best equip the minds of children to be successful at learning and problem solving in our globally-minded world today.
There's a plethora of styles I draw from depending upon the learning needs of my students. For example, there are times when I teach from a top-to-bottom or bottom-to-top approach. Regardless of those approaches, I am always seeking ways to be a multi-sensory teacher in each and every unit of study--so I guess I'm a multi-sensory teacher LOL. Knowing we all learn differently, I find that the trick is always to unlock the method that has the key to the often complex problems we face in learning and ultimately in life. My motto is learn and grow. With that in mind, while my students continue to learn and grow, I am perpetually doing the same.
