With this unit, I wanted to help my students move from narrative writing to a more personal, inward exploration through words. Memoir writing is great because it engages the writer where he or she is and our pasts are ripe for searching out ideas.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I love making teaching activities and units! Often times, I would search and search for the right thing to use with my students but didn't have any luck finding it. So, I started to create my own materials and now I love sharing them with other teachers. This is my 9th year of teaching. Six of these years have been teaching science and language arts. I spent seven years teaching 5th grade (which I loved!) Now, I am the middle school literacy teacher!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a very high energy, enthusiastic teacher who tries to incorporate technology and interactive lessons into my plans (and I occasionally dress up like a mad scientist!) I like a lot of hands-on activity and active discussion with my students. I love creating my own materials that are tailored to the standards that I teach.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

George A. Pflaum Award, Nominated for Panera Rising Above Teaching Award, Three-time presenter at OCEA convention I've also received several "World's Best Teacher" ornaments and mugs. :)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelor's degree in Middle Childhood Education from The University of Dayton Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ohio Dominican University

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have two very spoiled bulldogs named Oliver and Hank. My husband and I enjoy cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and trying out restaurants in the area (my favorite is Mexican food!). I also love to write and read.
