TEACHING EXPERIENCE

19 years in secondary education instructing history and language arts ranging from remedial to general education to honors, advanced placement, and International Baccalaureate.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have been teaching a common core style of education far before the phrase was coined. Given my dual background in language arts and history many of my assessments call on skills found in the other. I also like to gamify many assignments in my class creating competitive classroom environments to encourage greater effort and understanding. Most of my assignments are efforts to encourage higher order thinking skills (analysis, evaluation, and synthesis). Many of my assignments come with multiple means of assessment allowing for group or individual projects as well as for greater or lesser technological application. I do this to appeal and accommodate different student situations which arise.
