TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My husband Zach and I have a combined teaching experience of 23 years. I taught middle and high school English Language Arts for 12 years. For the past two years I have been teaching high school Photography, Intro to Journalism, and Yearbook. My husband has taught both middle school math and Gateway to Technology. I write most of the curriculum posted, but have convinced him to write some math lessons for substitute solutions.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to try new things and new technologies in my classroom, but I always mix in tried and true strategies that I learned in my master's program and from mentor teachers. I plan each lesson plan thoroughly and take pride in the work I produce. The benefits of a well planned lesson are clear with the work that my students produce and the expectations they rise to meet.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I spent my first five years teaching grades 7-9 English in a small town. I had my students for three years and then some were stuck with me for longer if they were assigned to my study hall as a sophomore, junior, or senior. The group of 9th graders that I had my last year in Nebraska honored me as their teacher by throwing a birthday party for me complete with glass tea cups for our pop. I cried when I told them I was moving to Colorado and a few of my students did as well. I went back for their high school graduation three years later and was honored to be mentioned as part of the valedictorian's speech.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I majored in English Education with a minor in Journalism at Doane University in Crete, NE. My master's degree is in Curriculum and Instruction from Doane University in Lincoln, NE.
