I spent 9 years teaching English in alternative education for socially, emotionally, and behaviorally disruptive students. I moved to a public vocational school where I teach English in most settings; AP Literature, college prep, inclusion, SEI/ESL and shop specific English enrichment. I have also taught creative writing and test prep skills.
Can ADD be called a teaching style?
The best reward is the relationship I make with students.
I went to a rural public high school, then Smith College (Northampton, MA), took 2 years off to do computer technical support, then went back to school at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst to get my M.Ed. I struggled to read as a small child, but once it clicked, I was off and running.
I love to read, to write, and to cook. I hate following recipes and can rarely, if ever, create the same dish twice. I have a wife, several cats, and a relatively close family. My students tell me I'm a big nerd. Also, they sometimes slip up and call me mom. There are many worse things.
