This is an anchor chart I created last year to use with my kindergartners and have used this year with my low 1st graders. When I used it last year, each student kept it in his/her writing folders. It can be enlarged, minimized to fit on a book

I LOVE using shipping/address labels to label and mark my students' math journals, word work notebooks and more! These labels were put on my students' spiral math notebooks. In those notebooks, we do "Number of the Day", story problems and

This is a cute hallway chant sign that I made and put at various points around the room (near the hallway.) We have done it so many times that all I have to say is "I'm...." and they do the rest! We also do motions with each phrase in the chant.

I use this each week when introducing new wall words. We review the wall words one at a time as a class, sound them out, spell them and then each student gets one of these to fill out. It is then sent home for students to put in a visible place

I made this mini-dictionary and printed it back to back for students to keep in their writing folders. When students have a word that they need spelled (that is not already on our word wall or one that we have not reviewed already), I will tell

This is a sheet that I use every week to introduce our new wall words. After introducing the 5 new wall words for the week, there are a few ways that you can use this handout: 1.) Put it in a center to have the students do independently. 2.) Do

I used this interactive whiteboard chart during the school year when reviewing the concept of "What's the Rule?" or "What's My Rule?" In this chart, it includes a complete pattern such as 2, 4, 6, 8 and asks the students to find the rule. It also

This is something I created to use with my 1st graders during one of our nonfiction units of our reader's workshop curriculum. This comes in a series of lessons that require the students to "jot down" their thinking when reading a non-fiction book.

This is a GREAT tool to keep track of how well my students are progressing with their skip counting skills. I teach 1st grade and they are expected to count to 120 by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. This template allows you to test and keep track of how well

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my fourth year with a full-time teaching job, but I have been teaching in the public school system for 6 years. My first year was spent as a kindergarten teacher, my second year as a 1st grade teacher at a different school, my third year was in an elementary resource room (at the same school where I was my first year) and now I am back teaching 1st grade where I was my second year! It was a wonderful whirlwind but I am happy to be back where my heart lies!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in keeping lessons simple and clear. A student-centered classroom is one where the students are independent in their learning with myself as the facilitator. Teachers do not need to put on a "dog and pony show" for students to learn. One of my great mentors said that lessons should be focused on "objective over activity." Something that I've always done throughout my teaching career is to create different activities and documents that work for me when I have searched and searched for them but could not find something that fit! My activities/documents are simple and easy to follow. Most importantly, the STUDENTS will find them easy to follow. Why waste your time creating something that looks pretty and cute when all that is needed for the lesson objective is something simple? Remember "objective over activity" !
