TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a teacher for twelve years. It all began in a rural K-8 school in Southwest Missouri where I started as a sixth grade teacher. My subjects for the first two years were advanced reading, Communication Arts, Science, and junior high electives. After that I moved to Junior High Science for grades six through eight. The next year when sixth grade became self contained I kept Science for seventh and eighth grade and took on the school newspaper, yearbook, and photography classes, which I LOVED! After nine years I moved and took on a new position as a fifth grade math and science teacher in a middle school cooperative teaching team. After a year as the fifth grade science lead, I am now moving on to sixth grade as the science lead there.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I suppose I would be described as having an eclectic teaching style. I believe strongly in building relationships with my students who always know that I love them, even when I might be upset. I like order when it is necessary and relaxed fun whenever it fits the activities in class. I am flexible and enjoy those times when we mix things up and even those days where we have to adapt just to make it through. Haha. I suppose this is why my classroom has gradually transformed from ordered groups to a new adventure in Collaborative Team Teaching, which is different than cooperative teaching.
