I have acquired more than 8 years of experience teaching students with Autism. I have successfully taught ASD classes ranging 4-11 students. I have been responsible for the management of paraprofessionals, worked collaboratively with general education teachers, ancillary staff and have team-taught.
In my experience students respond to and learn from the integration of technology with instruction. In order to best utilize the technology that I have access to I have designed many different SmartBoard activities/presentations. Each designed to teach students with Autism. I am focused on teaching students to be independent. This includes self-help skills, social skills, and involvement in the community. I am sensitive to issues that males and females face as they enter adulthood and understand that the skills students will need must be taught directly and delicately.
I am excited to share my skills and knowledge. I have been extensively START trained in Academic Supports, Peer-Peer Supports and Behavioral Strategies. My training in Peer-Peer supports gives me the background and experience that is needed to run an effective peer-mentoring program. I have presented the Academic Supports Module for START, lead school wide ASD awareness trainings and organized large celebrations for district wide peer supports programs.
