Help your students connect their goals to the content you are working on in your class. This is a great beginning of the year activity to do with high schoolers. It can also work as a middle of the semester goal setting activity.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Together we have over 12 years of experience teaching in the public schools. We both work in a Title 1 school that recently moved out of the At Risk category. Alison has taught in Beijing, China, inner city Saint Louis, and suburban/rural districts. Stephanie has spent her career working with students in North Charleston, SC. We have experience teaching AP Literature, English 1,2,3,4, American Literature, British Literature, World Literature, and Speech and Debate.

MY TEACHING STYLE

We currently use a Personal Mastery teaching model in our classrooms. This means that we give students choice in what they read, how they learn, and the speed at which they learn. We hold students accountable for mastering the standards. Most importantly, we teach and practice growth mindset every day in our classrooms.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Stephanie was Rookie Teacher of the Year and has presented with Alison at the High Schools that Work National Conference (2013), Charleston Educator's Symposium (2013), and the SCCTE Conference (2014). Alison was named Charleston County School District Teacher of the Month in November 2013. They are both Personal Mastery Demonstration Teachers for Charleston County School District.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Our team has one NC State Wolfpack member and a Furman University Paladin. We both have degrees in English and Education from our universities.
