TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a literacy specialist with more than thirteen years of experience in education. I served as an ESL, ELA and History teacher in the classroom and also tutored students for the ACT and SAT. In 2012, I founded OWLS, a social innovation company that the provides educational services and products that help move high impact organizations like schools and nonprofits into the 21st Century. Our teacher creators have held the titles of literacy coach, literacy coordinator, and lead teacher.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Teaching is not a job, it's an art form. It IS our job to make students' learning time engaging and memorable...dare I say FUN? Yet, OWLS takes the obligation to teach very seriously and we use researched-based strategies to help organizations and individuals engage, manage, and assess learners effectively. Our teaching style is reflected in our core values: optimism, wisdom, leadership, and strategy.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Owls is honored to have won the MEMpitch small business competition and gained the mentorship of an executive with the Memphis Grizzlies. My husband and I both received the YMCA Young Adult Achievers. We are also graduates of the prestigious New Memphis Embark Institute.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated at the top of my high school class and attended Xavier University of Louisiana where I majored in Literature and minored in biology. From New Orleans, I relocated to Houston after Hurricane Katrina and attended graduate school at St. Thomas University. Here I received a masters degree in educational leadership and I was inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I started making my own learning materials during my first year teaching when I was dismayed at the lack of instructional materials available for secondary, post-secondary, and ESL students. I set about creating resources to make classroom management and instruction design easier while teaching. I shared them with coworkers who encouraged me to "take this show on the road." Now, I would like to share them with TpT teachers.

TPT empowers educators to teach at their best.
