TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught high school English and Journalism for 10 years, with the past four years including a combined American Literature & United States History course. I have taught primarily sophomores during my career and have spent extensive time preparing students for ECA tests and state mandated tests.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in an interactive teaching style that encourages group discussion and interaction within the classroom. It is a very rare day in my world when I stand in the front of the classroom and lecture. I find work that engages students while challenging them at the same time has been the most effective.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been awarded the "Legacy Award" twice, which is an award voted on by the graduating class for a teacher who has made a difference in their educational career. My journalism students have won several individual awards for writing, design and photography.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from Indiana University in 2003 as an English major with a license to teach secondary education. I have taken graduate classes in journalism and press ethics.
