TEACHING EXPERIENCE

11 years teaching English as a foreign language in the UK, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Japan.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Communicative approach, including task-based teaching styles, and CLIL. I seek to create active classes in which students participate fully and are given as many chances to use the language as possible. Rather than a focus on form early on, I first challenge students to use the language and analyse needs as they produce language. In this way students' attention is drawn to their language needs, and they have a greater understanding of where they need to work with the teacher to develop. This requires intensive monitoring and a thorough understanding of lexical and grammatical issues, and the ability to distinguish between errors and mistakes, but is highly effective.
