TEACHING EXPERIENCE

After earning my teaching credential, I returned to the inner city high school that I had graduated from as a teenager. During my nine years there, I taught all levels of English, including honors, AP, as well as a test prep course for the California High School Exit Exam. Three years ago, I switched to a new district and have been teaching middle school English.

MY TEACHING STYLE

In the past several years, I have received training from the Center for Culturally Relevant Teaching and Learning, as well as from Kate Kinsella. Our school-wide focus has been on engaging students in meaningful learning experiences and increasing student accountablility and linguistic output.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned my BA in English Education from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK. My initial teaching credential was in Oklahoma, but I immediately returned home to teach in California. I received my CA teaching credential from CSU East Bay, and I went on to earn my MA in English Literature there as well.
