I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade in the public schools. I have also taught in a private preschool. For the past 7+ years I have owned and operated my own, private preschool. When my children were younger, we homeschooled for a few years. I have LOVED every teaching opportunity which I have been blessed with.
I have been educated and trained in both the Montessori Method and in traditional Elementary Education. I try to include the best of both worlds in my classroom. I use a lot of hands-on-learning and multi-sensory learning activities in my teaching. Music is a very important part of my curriculum. When children are engaged and find joy in their learning, they learn quicker and remember longer. Learning environments should be happy and peaceful. I try to focus on the positives with the children I teach and I try to help them do the same. I believe that learning should be a joyful experience, one that students want to be involved with for the rest of their lives.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I am also Montessori trained and certified. In January 2013 I will begin my Masters degree in Early Childhood Education.
My husband is my best friend. He is a professional audio/visual producer and a musician. We love to work together to create educational activities and projects. We have five amazing children. Together we like to sing, hike, run, play games, and make memories! Teaching is my hobby and my passion! I especially love helping children learn to read...To me it is as exciting as watching a baby learn to walk. I take it as a special compliment when my young students accidentally call me "mom" or "grandma" because I'm hopeful that it means that they are feeling valued, loved and happy in my classroom.
