TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I earned my initial certification for elementary education, grades 1-8, in Texas, from the University of Texas. I earned my Masters in Education from The University of North Texas. My Masters includes gifted and talented education and technology. I also took 5 more graduate classes upon moving from TX to IL. I receieved my elementary certification in IL, middle school endorsement, and Secondary Mathematics certification. I taught middle school math for 7 years, a combo of all grades, and gifted (accelerated) classes. I taught my last year at a magnet high school, integrating technology based learning, layered curriculum, differentiation, compacting content, and open ended learning opportunities. We used technology and "out of the box" styles of learning and teaching. I also taught in a double blocked math class for many of my years in the middle school and in the high school. Lots of experience with "chunking" lessons into smaller blocks of learning, while keeping children constantly engaged in activities.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to teach within block scheduling, open ended teaching, and discovery. Differentiated and layered curriculum are probably my favorite teaching style. I have used differentiation, learning contracts, compacting, extentions, menus, holistic (across the disciplines) units, centers...and making sure all types of learning styles are met.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

BA from University of Texas at Arlington MeD from University of North Texas in Gfited Education Certified in TX and IL 5 courses OVER and beyond my master's degree

I have presented at the MID KID convention within my regional school district. I have taught, other teachers within my district, how use and implement some of my successful lessons. I have team taught many, many years. I have 2 kids, both in the gifted program. My daughter is 17, and is a senior...ranked in the top 2% of her class, going to pursue Chemical Engineering. My son is a first grader, already excelling at a young age. I have been married for 18 years. I am retired from teaching, but help out my friends (teachers) with lessons all the time! I continue to help in the gifted and regular classrooms in IL, offering any help for tutoring kiddos and offering fun and unusual math activity time for kids to earn as a special reward for excellent behavior. I also run the school store, which is sponsored by the gifted program.
