I am a middle school Science teacher at an exciting, diverse, low-income school in Southeast Wisconsin. In May 2012 I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee with a degree in Elementary Education and a focus in teaching Science. The following month I packed up my life, sent my kitty to live with family and moved to South Africa. For two years I lived and worked in a tiny, rural village for the US Peace Corps teaching English, developing a library and many other projects. It was an amazing experience but I missed teaching science.
The two things I want you to understand about me is that I am passionate about science and witnessing my students' growth in the subject. I chose this career because I am a proud student for life. Like my students, science is a field that continues to change and grow and I love to learn and grow alongside my students. The two most important things I want you to understand about my teaching style is that it is hands on and standards driven. The majority of my formative and summative assignments are focused on developing skill and knowledge concurrently. I believe that worksheets do not always grow dendrites and I am in the business of doing that.
I am an active member of my school district and participate regularly in many science and middle school development committees. I am Project Lead the Way - Medical Detectives certified.
Everyone has had a: THAT ONE TEACHER in their life that showed them the direction they should take. For me, I was so fortunate to have so many of those teachers introduce me to scientific inquiry and the field of education. Which is why I attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and received a degree in Elementary Education MCEA (1-8), Science (1-8), Social Studies (1-8).
I hope you enjoy your visit into my Teachers Pay Teachers store and find something that will add value to you, your work and your students. Everything you see hear has been made with a love for scientific inquiry.
