I taught two years in fourth grade in Oak Cliff before moving on to be an assistant principal at that same school. I absolutely loved it. My wife and I moved and now I'm thankful to continue the teaching adventures with writing and science!
I believe that the largest point of academic success is based in personal relationships--relationships with students, parents, and other community members. The flow of my classroom is dependent on a feeling of mutual respect and trust. There aren't rules, but rather expectations for my students to adhere to.
