TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My bachelor's degree is in Education with a focus in secondary Language Arts (7-12). This is my sixth year of teaching. Since beginning this career, I have had teaching experiences in urban, rural, and suburban schools in grades 7, 9, 10, 11, and 12. Currently, I teach College Prep English 11 and Inclusion English 12 and have been doing so for the past four years. For the past two years, I have served as my school's Writing Center Adviser which is a student led tutoring service where our motto is: "We help people not papers". In this way, our tutoring services empower students to become stronger writers by not being afraid to share their work with others as it is part of a learning process. Teaching this course has truly become a positive experience for me. Although I have only been teaching for six years, I feel I have been exposed and apart of many different classroom settings and valuable experiences that have affected my teaching style, lessons, and materials.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Two things I believe (and live by) as an educator: 1) During class time, students should always be engaged and doing more work than the teacher; therefore, I believe in student-centered learning. 2) Whenever I am planning units and lessons not only do I align them with Common Core Standards, but I also ask myself what skills do students need in the 21st Century in order to be successful citizens? I always try to give each lesson rigor and relevance to the real world.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

My first few years of teaching were truly the hardest years of my life thus far. From learning content, to planning, to classroom management- I really do not know how I survived those beginning years! Not to mention, I switched jobs every year due to school district cuts. With that being said, I wanted to put my products on this site because if I can help any other teachers out there in some way and help them to save some of their precious time then that is quite a fulfillment for myself. I understand intellectual and creative integrity, but I also understand the daily demands of what it means to be a teacher, so if I can share some materials that took me countless hours, nights, and weekends to make then I will! Looking back, I always remember the people who helped me in my beginning years and those are still my biggest inspirations as I continue to teach.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

In the past year, I was married to my husband and he has always been and remains to be the biggest supporter of me and my career. For this reason, I began my master's this year in School Counseling. I love teaching and will always continue to do so in some way, but I always look for new ways to grow in my profession and counseling seems to be calling based on my work with adolescents. All products in my store have been and continue to be used in the classroom with students. Each year I create, tweak, and fix materials to fit my learners' needs and the needs of 21st Century education. Thanks for taking a look and enjoy!
